Got a new laptop(presario f500) and can't get the disc drive to recognise any type of content on discs, any ideas?

RMA it or return it to the store.
I can't think of any good reason your brand new drive in your brand new computer would not read disc other than manufacturing defect.

    Got it to work!
    Well, James Bond did.

Tried loads of different discs and got Die Another Day to work, now it plays any retail dvd or cd but still won't recognise anything on a burned disc, have to start in safe mode to use them.

Is this a DRM problem? Cos one of the files I tried running on cd was Vista drivers for a printer, which was a legal download, or is it something in the security settings(which I can't find)?
