Don't really want to debate this, we've done that already. Tho' if others want to that's cool as a really cool thing.

I just thought the link may be useful to anyone who wanted to get the details on what was going to happen and how it effected folk.

    I lost a really fine job,that I loved,when similar measures were
enacted here. I suppose it's for the best.

Of course it's not for the best. If people want to go to a pub for a relaxing drink and a smoke what's wrong with that?
if other public members don't like it
..they should go to the non-smoking areas..if necessary outside..plenty of fresh air there.

Too much patronising going on. They think the public is stupid. If we want to smoke thats up to us. We could also be killed in a road accident or polluted by the government or used as test guinea pigs or worse. All this happens in real life, in the UK.

No more burning at the stake then.
Wonder how it will affect the burning of incense or the smoke from candles?

I read today that smoking would still be allowed in the MP's bar in Parliament. Does anyone know if that's true.

well i don't drive, but have to breathe in enough crap everyday because of others. If they can drive, i can smoke. It's not like they aren't making a fortune on taxes already.

And they'll need to make the tax deficit up from somewhere else for the lack of fags being smoked.

Christ, bonfire nights going to be electrified soon enough. It'll look like Blackpool Lights across the UK. And blackpool is crap.

I found this. It is dated last year but appears to be the case that they are allowed to smoke in the House Of Commons Smoking Room. Like the Freedom Of Information Bill, one law for us and another law for them.

SMOKING IN THE HOUSE OF COMMONS
    14.02.2006

    Goldsworthy, Julia
That this House notes that right hon. and hon. Members voted to ban smoking in all public places including private members' clubs on 14th February 2006; further notes that the will of the House may not apply in the House itself since it is a royal palace; further notes that this means that staff working in the Smoking Room could still be exposed to the harmful effects of second-hand smoke; and calls for this anomaly to be rectified by the House authorities as soon as possible.

You can't smoke, its for the best.
Oh yea, trans fat is bad, so you can't eat that either.
    Hmm, alcohol is bad, outlaw'd
    OMG Eggs raise colesterol, outlaw'd
Your eating MEAT? jail time, meat is bad for you.

Ok, so its a bit overboard, but you get the point. When big bro steps in and regulates stuff like this, where is the line drawn?
