Try to get a copy of Everest Home Edition by Lavalys. Officially it is no longer available but there are still plenty of copies out there.

If you look under Motherboard/SPD it should give you sufficient information to get compatible memory.

CL is CAS (Column Address Strobe) Latency. The last signal sent to memory when it is read is the CAS. The latency is the number of clock cycles before the data is available. Consequently the lower the latency the sooner the data is available. It may be quoted as 2.5, but as you will see from Everest it depends on the clock speed.

It is just one of many memory timings, but it is probably the most important after the clock speed in terms of performance.

My new favorite app for this is SIW.

I think you'd like it, lynx...I run it right off my flash drive on customer PCs, no install necessary.

Thanks clocker, it's now on my flash drive too.

Some areas not quite as informative as Everest but the times when that extra information is really useful are very few, and there's probably enough to look up that extra info elsewhere.
