The two fingers that the punks gave to the progressive *yawn* rock bands like yes, elo etc was a turning point
Stock Aitken and Waterman's mass-production of few-hit-wonders was also an influence, but this time not a good one

Elvis is really the man who did so much for music...Everything the man did was magic...I mean im not a great fan of his music but i respect him as a musician...He was the first white man to delve into the culture of the afircan americans and yeah he is one of the most recognised musical figures in history... Well thats my opinion...
The music of Rock 'n' Roll was first to appeal soley to younger generation, to open the flood gates of self expression. B)

Still laughing my arse off about the Cobain thing. I suppose Sonic Youth, Mudhoney, Butthole Surfers, Etc never existed in some peoples eyes!! As for Elvis being the first Pop ( Popular ) act, what about Sinatra or Nat King Cole they were enormous years before Elvis even came on the music scene. I could name a few incidents which have influenced the music scene,
The New York Dolls kicking off Garage-Punk in New York.
Kool Herc mixing records together.
Popularisation of the 45 single.
Teenagers getting more disposable income in the 1950's.
Pete Waterman introducing Ska and Reggae to a wider UK audience in the 1970's.
