What's the best software to convert a VCD to one AVI file?

Also, what software should I use to join to AVI files?

    Cheers,
    Hugo.

I think virtual dub would be the best..just compress to divx or something.I'm not sure if it joins..i've never need to join any avi's.

Yes, v-dub can join AVI's, although it is sometimes very picky about it....It has to be the same resolution, codec, and there are some other things to try...you can go to Divx Digest and look around for something that will let you join AVI's if v-dub doesn't work...

the answer to the 1st question: dvdtoavi but haven't personally used it too much
2nd Open the file in v-dub(i heard v-dub mp3freeze is the best version) and after the 1st part is open click append video. If there is a 3rd part repeat...

Is there anyway to make it so that the file being created with Virtual Dub is a normal file size instead of about 80GB?

When I press 'Save as AVI', the predicted filesize is about 80GB. Am I choosing the wrong option?

Okay, what I did was I took my VCD, and took the MPEG files and made one .mpg file using TMGEnc, but that file is 1.1GB.
I opened this in Virtual Dub, and clicked 'Save as AVI'. The predicted file size for this was 80GB.

hugoharding..this is one quick way u could do it..open the vcd disc ,goto the mpegav folder and copy and paste the dat file inside to ur desktop or where ever.Rename the dat extension to mpeg, then open with v-dub.Go to video>full processin' choose compression and what codec, say divx.Go to audio>full procces>
    compression>mp3>save as avi
