Well I was also considering going on vacation somewhere too but up until now I have no idea where; unlike Tralalala. So ...maybe you lot could give me some ideas, or would this topic be more appropriate for the lounge.

Well, the objective of this trip is going to be to make sure you see the light of day ( Assuming you have the same if not similar complexion of spatulageekgirl LOL) so go somewhere with heat and sun. I'd suggest Florida, the ft Lauderdale/Miami area is definitely the place to be

    Florida:

    Daytona Beach - the beach

    Ft Lauderdale - the beach

Orlando/Kississime - Disney Magic Kingdom, Epcot Center, Animal Kingdom, MGM Studios, Universal Studios, Universal Studios Islands Of Adventure, not far from Cocoa Beach, Sea World, Discovery Cove

Tampa - Casino Boats, Busch Gardens Africa, Adventure Island, about an hour and a half drive from Orlando

Vegas - gambling, shows, rides, about 3 and a half hour drive to Los Angeles, California

Williamsburg, Va - Busch Gardens Europe, Water Country USA, Colonial Williamsburg (see battles and stuff), Jamestown-Scotland Ferry, about 1 hour 45 min from Virginia Beach

On my recent trip to Williamsburg I stayed for 7 days starting on the Friday before 4th of July (Wednesday). I always get 7 days passes for Busch Gardens/Water Country. Since Busch Gardens was having fireworks everyday from the 1st through the 4th but Virginia Beach was having it only on the 4th, I got a separate hotel in Virginia Beach just for the 4th.

I stayed at Greensprings Plantation in Williamsburg.

With the 7 day passes, we went to Busch Gardens/Water Country when we felt like it. We were at Busch Gardens one day around 6pm and stayed till closing (11pm). We saw the fireworks that day and rode some rides. My 6 year old rode her first real roller coaster that day (Big Bad Wolf).

We wanted to go on the water rides at Busch but who wants to get all wet in their regular clothes? It wasn't super hot (about 82) so we went to Water Country one day then afterwards hopped over to Busch and rode their water rides.

Another day we just stopped in around 8pm to hit some rides. We were waiting to ride the Big Bad Wolf. Unfortunately, that was one of the rides that was getting shut down for the fireworks (it's now July 3rd). So while we were in line there was an announcement that it would be shut down at 9pm. It was damn close to that time and we were far back. People started leaving the line so we inched closer and closer.

We end up being part of the last group before they shut down for the fireworks. That was my 6 year-old's second time on that ride.

After that we went to the Loch Ness Monster. This wasn't shut down and the fireworks hadn't started yet. There was absolutely no line, we rode it....then when it was time to get off, we asked to ride again. We literally just stayed in our seats to ride again.

This time we saw the fireworks as we rode the coasters and it was beautiful.

After that, we just wanted to leave so we took the Sky Tram back to the entrance....the fireworks were still going and got to see the finale in the air on the tram. Fucking Amazing.

Another day we drove to the Jamestown River and drove onto the ferry that takes us to Surrey. We had breakfast over there at the Surrey House Restaurant.

On July 4th we went to Virginia Beach, checked in our hotel early, put on our gear, and headed to the beach. We had no liquor but luckily there was an ABC store (Virginia runs all liquor stores) near our spot. After getting some Brandy, we realized we had no ice. Luckily I brought my Super humongous Big Gulp Cup and there was a 7-Eleven near our spot too. I refilled it with Coke Slurpee, he charged me 88 cents cuz he thought it was soda and not Slurpee.

I poured the Brandy right into the Coke Slurpee and me and wifey got right tipsy on the beach well into the night. We packed our stuff later, walked on the boardwalk then went back in the sand to see a huge orchestra set up on the beach. It was basically a huge canopied stage. We listened to them but then got bad news. The fireworks come from a ship out in the water. The conductor announced that the ship hit huge ground swells (or some shit) and there'd be no fireworks. Fuckers! I bet they knew an hour ago.

After that we walked somore of the boardwalk then ate a restaurant. I think it was about 11pm at this point. It was still crowded as all getout down there.

Got back to the Marriot. My 6 year-old went to sleep and we watched a DVD (I always bring my cords for the hotel TVs).

Back at Greensprings, their indoor pool was messed up but right down the street was Powhatan Plantation, their sister resort. We were able to use all their stuff since it was all Sunterra.

So we used the Greensprings outdoor pool and Powhatan's indoor pool when it was late (and their game room). Restaurant were right down the rode when we didn't feel like cooking in. If your go to Cheeburger Cheeburger in New Town (down the rode), I'm the black guy on the bottom left. That's for finishing the 1-pounder. New Town has a movie theater but I'm totally against going to a theater while on vacation.

We got back on Friday about 2pm. We all took a nap then went right back out to Bengies Drive-In (now the biggest screen in America) in Baltimore, MD and saw Shreak The Third, Transformers, and Disturbia.

We still had Saturday and Sunday before going to work.

    edit:let's add

    Washington D.C. and metropolitan area

    monuments
    museums
    National Zoo
Six Flags America in Largo, MD (less than 30 minutes away)
Bengies Drive-In Theater in Baltimore, MD (less than an hour away)
Also in Baltimore - the Baltimore Zoo and Baltimore Harbor which has Baltimore Aquarium (which is excellent btw).

    I'm on vacation right now.
Currently in Chicago for my niece's 21st birthday party.
Tonight we dine on Navy Pier, see Cirque du Soliel and finish with fireworks over Lake Michigan.
Tomorrow, I drive up to visit j2 in the frigid North.

I think he has a good roller coaster too.

You could always come down here to San Diego. Great weather and awsome beaches. Tons of stuff to do as well.

Hell when I was at Water Country it wasn't.

It wasn't cold by any stretch but at that time I wanted it to be HOTTER THAN HELL!
