Thread: uTorrent disconnects internet

  1. #1
    hello everybody
i've been tackling this problem all day but didn't find a solution
after replacing my motherboard to an ASUS A8R-MVP and reformatting
i can't use utorrent (or rather download using utorrent) for more than 1 minute.
the internet connection is simply disconnected though the network itself or the router dont crash.
i tried limiting the number of global connections and connections per torrent to less than 100.
net.max_halfopen has been changed to 4. tcp/ip connection is set to 120 instead of 10.
i reinstalled the lan drivers of the marvell yukon and installed the ULi chipset driver (1.0.5.2a i think).
checked windows update untill there were no more critical updates.
didnt update the bios because the bios update tool on the asus site scares me...

this is frustrating.... any help appreciated
    thx :]

    edit:
i also turned off upnp, dht and nat-pmp and restarted the router (fritz box wlan 7170) and modem (300hs i believe) and pc
    (3800+ x2
    asus a8r mvp
    512*2 adata vitesta
    wd hdds
    7800gt)

What version of uTorrent do you use?

  3. Software & Hardware   -   #3
    1.7.2
    also happens with 1.6.1
I have peer guardian installed and nod32 and spy sweeper
all are deactivated with the same results

Did you add uTorrent and its port in your Firewall Exceptions? And your TCP/IP connection: 120 is too much - I'd advice to set it to 40-50 and your uTorrent's net.max_halfopen back to its default (8).

I'd also advice for you to use
ipfilter.dat instead of peer guardian... http://zerotracker.com/torrents-deta...979&filelist=1

could a bios update fix this, or is it most likely a software problem?
    more towards reformatting?

    edit:
ok tried cahnging to 50 tcp/ip connection and net.max_halfopen back to 8
went back to version 1.6.1, deleted the config file and tried ipfilter instead of peerguardian.
it still disconnects my pc from the internet after 1 minute

should i entirely uninstall peerguardian or should closing it be enough

i think i should add that utorrent seems to be working fine when i limit the speed to around 150
when it reaches speeds of 500+ it will automatically crash my pcs connection. the router itself doesnt crash.

    2nd edit:
it crashed with 150kbps limit, just took longer

i believe it happends after i download around 100MB.

What firewall do you use? Zonealarm has issues with utorrent.

i tried turning all the firewalls and antivirus apps off...

    edit:
i just found out the same happens with azureus
and even a non torrent network app (emule) disconnects my i-net
it only takes longer for it to reach 100mb~ (???)

    i really don't get it

Are your uTorrent's Encryption and Outgoing Protocol Encryption both enabled?

If not, then it could be your ISP.

it also happens when encryption is on
i believe i did everything possible

ok i believe the problem isn't hardware based.
I bought a pci 10/100 nic and the problem's still there.
I tried downloading through a laptop (while disconnecting the network cable from the pc and moving it to the laptop). The problem was still present.
But after a firmware upgrade of the router i managed to download 4 GB without a hitch.
Then I happily reconnected the pc but 30 seconds later the speed went down hill and my connection died (although the flashing little pcs near the clock didn't show a network disconnected message) so i had to disable and enable the network connection like always.

    *frustration*

    edit:
after updating the firmware of my fritzbox 7170 to a beta version the speed still goes down but jumps back up within 5 seconds
atleast i can finish my download now...

the question is, why is the speed going down to a crawl for a few seconds?
