erm yes, I want to get files from a friend, and we tried looking for each others files, but they dont show up....can anyone help a n00b here?

Some info first, How far apart do you live and what kind of files are you trying to share?
With XP, if you're both on the same gateway, basically connected to the ISP the way a partyline phone works, you may not be able to share without a proxy connection.
Even if you live next door to each other, you might be on different supernodes.

Just use MSN messenger and send the files directly. It saves a lot of time.
