Thread: Problem With Adapter Recognizing Memory Size

  1. #1
My Nvidia geforce mx 420 currently, under:

    Properties>settings>advanced>adapter:

    has adapter information such as:

    Chip type: geforce mx 420

    DAC type: integrated RAMDAC

Memory size: says 16 MB, sometime 32 MB--it should say 64 MB, and often changes to 32, strangely...at different boot times and I checked with PC wizard and it says that the computer only recognizes the amount that the adapter recognizes in display settings...but riva tuner recognizes my card as 64 MB; what does this mean? Please help...

    Adapter String: Geforce MX 420

    Version: 4.17.00.45.42

Why is the memory size wrong?

Please help. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Have you tried the latest drivers?

    Check this site: http://download.guru3d.com/detonator/

Yes, the drivers, Version: 4.17.00.45.42 are the lastest version, the ones that created all of the benchmarking hype with the 3d mark 03 stuff.

    Version 44.03 = Version: 4.17.00.45.42

I tried several things; adjusting the AGP artpeture to 128, 256, 64 etc. with no luck.

    Thanks though for the reply.

Sorry, I didn't notice the driver version number.

What motherboard is it plugged into?

Is this an newly assembled computer or has this problem showed up after quite some time of operation?

Sounds like there maybe some defective part.

I have had this computer since August. I have not done anything but add more ram and overclcok a little, which is unncessary because I don't game. I tried the drivers with and without the Quadro emulation, but got no luck, same result. Actually a couple of days ago it said I had 64 mb with the quadro emulation.

Okay, I fixed this problem, but I can't find the article now...

But if you have Win XP and you want to emulate a Quadro with your geforce, make sure to navigate to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0172&SUBSYS_015A10DE&REV_A3

right click, go to permissions, and go to 'everyone', and select "full control," reboot.

Fixed it right away, now it correctly awknowedges my 64 MB.
