Hi Guys
I am not all that technical but after a coouple of years d/l video clips it seems that there are 5 or six formats.
The most popular are
MPG
AVI
WMV
with
MOV
RM
ASF
being others.
What I would like to know is which is the best technically of the first 3.
I get the feeling that MPG is the most popular, but seems to have a larger file size than avi and wmv seems even smaller.
What do you think ?

it all depends.
mpeg are good if you intend to make dvds or svcds.
xvid or divx which are all mpeg4 (avi) files have better compression but wont play in standard dvd players.
wmv is also mpeg4 but requires windows to play and i dont think i have seen any standalone players that play these.
it seems at the minute x264 is the codec to watch as loads of hd content is being delivered in this format.
i try my best to avoid mov and rm files at any cost.
