Ok here is my entry for the board logo contest.

Feel free to use it at no charge. My services as a graphic designer are in high-demand and at a premium cost, but i'll toss this one out as a freebie

As I said, they are just drafts (**cough cough ) Look up the word drafts at dictionary.com ? LOL It took me 15 minutes to make all the drafts. The polls are over, so there was no reason to spend hours on them and polish them to professional level with Paint Shop Pro. *shrug

I appreciate people's simple honesty, I really do, but I was hoping for complex criticism of colors and layout ?

Anyone else, please add yer 2 cents.

    Thanks,

lol thanks tite-wad, there was about 4 days of hard work put into that logo of mine. I'm totally surprised it didn't even make the first poll....maybe VB missed it ....

geothermal78, if you want slightly more complex critiscism, then personally i feel your designs have a 'cluttered' feel, the colours chosen didn't have much of a contrast so have an overall 'fuzzy' look. The fonts used are very plain. I'm not one for fancy fonts most of the time either, but again, the lettering wasn't very clear. My suggestion to somebody1234 early on was to use a different, simpler font for "Discussion Board" than the more complex one used for "K-Lite" to give some sense of contrast. Motionmaster's entry used similar fonts for both phrases, but his still looked good because he used a navy colour and a white colour, retaining the contrast.

If you take a look at the final poll, the two clear front runners, and the eventual winner, had one major thing in common - they were very clear and easy on the eye, with gradient use featured sparingly. I'm sure your designs would have looked better if you had polished them up like you said you would if it had been worth it given that the contest was already over.

I wasn't trying to put you down earlier, just felt i had to say something because you were a bit harsh concerning other members designs.

    Hi faceman,

I thank you for your honesty ! Very cool ! The funny thing is I agree with your feelings on my drafts of the banner. I don't like simple fonts and nor do I like contrasting colors like white and blue as they remind me of MS colors. However had I been on the boards earlier then I might have changed the fonts and colors slightly to address the "cluttered" comments. I do like other websites that have a fuzzy look to them. I do have an art degree so perhaps that is what draws me away from everything having to be so crisp and clean all the time. The main reason I felt the entries were boring is that they all looked the same to me color wise and that is a bigger factor for me liking something art wise than font or the spacing of things. My own preference of course.... I don't think I implied that other's should emulate me or were boring because they liked blue and white.

Yeah, polishing sure does improving things. My 1977 microwave looks high tech when cleaned and polished ! LOL

You do say "clear and easy on the eye". This is exactly my point. The banners that made it to the final, were all "forgettable" as they don't draw the eye into them nor do they "get noticed". They blend in too well IMO and ask any new user about what they like about the message board and they will say the people not the artwork or design. The artwork and design create atmosphere. I used to live in LA and I had two choices of movie theaters nearby. The Mann Theater and some no name mall theater west of there. If you have ever seen The Mann, you will never forget it. They also have excellent sound and video inside. The mall theater is just like all the rest and gives you only 2 hours of validation for parking even though many movies are 2 1/2 hours nowadays. Anyway, I guess we agree on some things and disagree on other things but it all comes down to what we like I guess in the voting. *smile

I didn't think you were putting me down. I like honest opinion especially if it contains a complex why with it. Most can't recognize honesty anymore. People say they want honesty in their relationships and with their family but they really don't want to hear it. But then is it because I've been online since 1993 that I have a thicker skin than some people ? Maybe.
