Exactly what does DHT do? and is it a good idea to turn it Off/On, also, will I get you in less "trouble" with your ISP by having it off. Could someone give me the low down of dht on utorrent.

    OFF,

It allows the files to be shared without the tracker, so you don't get credit for your downloads

DHT helps in making trackerless torrents by turning every peer downloading that torrent into a tracker but this can also be used if a tracker goes down for some reason and the said tracker supports DHT. Then when that happens then those downloading the torrent on that tracker would then themselves become the tracker for that torrent so that constant downloading in maintained until the tracker can be brought back online.

I dont think DHT is supposed to be turned on in any private bittorrent sites, its only for public sites but I could be wrong.

Not best, mandatory! Pretty much every tracker FAQ tels you this.

Some sites will ban you if they determine torrents are leaking because of you.

You can leave your DHT on as uTorrent automatically messes with it for you on sites that don't allow it. You should also enable encryption to help prevent isp throttling.
