Quality dvd vs hd

Whats best quality, let me give you an example:

Inside.Man.2006.720p.HDDVD.x264-SEPTiC - ~4,41GB
Inside.Man.DVDR-MPTDVD - ~4,43GB

If you looking for quality, wich would you see of these two?

So the think im wondering on is should i start downloading HDDVD rips instead of the DVD?

HD m8 !!! 1280×720 for 720P over 720×480 (NTSC) or 720×576 (PAL) in DVD format !

Ok. So the quality is better on the x264. But one think i don't understand. Why is the dvd bigger than the DVDR? If the quality is better on the X264, the it should be bigger?
