Hey, I can play Mpeg in WMP, but I have AVI files that one play the video, they play audio and they play perfectly in VideoLan, but won't play in WMP, I've tried downloading and installing the DierctX codecs, but have not found anything that works. It also won't play DVDs. I have WMP 11 but it happened in 10 also. The problem began occurring after I formatted and reinstalled everything, and while trying to get rid of useless programs to save space, I think I may have deleted a key component. Any Ideas?

    Thanks

The files you’re trying to play are likely mpeg-2, instead of mpeg-

    1. WMP doesn’t natively decode mpeg-2 files. There’s 3 ways to remedy this 1. Play the file using an alternate player (media player classic , videolan (www.videolan.org), and many more... ).

    2. try dvd software like windvd or powerdvd - the mpeg-2 file will play seamlessly in windows media player

    3. install an mpeg-2 decoder

Thanks alot, I do use VideoLan, but I like WMP more for just throwing a DVD in, usually I use VLC for bins and cues, thanks guys, the K-lite codec worked.
