i am looking for a good quality professional standard 3D animation program i have a nephew who is studying graphic arts at college and would like to get him the best program i can i am guessing that there must be a corel or maybe autocad that would fit this bill so if anyone has this type of program or knows what program i need to get i would very much appreciate the information.

if you want the best program go for Maya, this is THE best 3D software, i use it and its fairly easy to use, but it depends on your nephew's ability, i advise you to get your nephew to study it, go through online tutorials and get some books from your local library.

the other software i recommend is Cinema4D, this is a top notch software too, but unlike Maya its very easy to use. Some commercials use it to produce nice animations and text. ive used this too, the rendering is brilliant and speedy.
it depends on your newphews needs. if he is going for very technical animations such as character animation i recommend Maya. another Autodesk app is 3Ds Max, this is mostly used for games and such.
I personally recommend Maya, it is the best 3D software available, it is used in special effects companies and almost everything else, although it is quite hard to learn its well worth studying. Maya is also the 3D industries standard, almost every graphics student should learn to use it.

Unlike any of the above software, Blender is open source so it's free(as in beer).
Why buy expensive 3D modeling software that your nephew may or may not have the capability to use?
