Clarification for those who don't understand.

Bacon Sarnie: A bacon sandwich (two slices of bread filled with bacon).

Bacon Buttie: Originally a corruption of a bacon sarnie, primarily from merseyside (scousers), where they have difficulty with the 's' sound (often pronounced 'sh', which would have made bacon sharnie). Later hijacked by softie southerners who didn't know the difference between this and a bacon roll.

Bacon Roll: Bacon in a small bread bun. Far too small to be of any use to anyone except softie southerners. Having realised this, they fooled gullible scousers into buying them by calling them butties.

Bacon Stottie: A meal fit for a king, a large breadcake filled with lashings of bacon, available from the Humber and all points north. Not advisable for softie southerners and people with weight problems. Side effects: high colesterol, heart disease.

    Other: Who the f*** cares.

Note: The contamination of any of the above with ketchup is to be avoided at all costs, with the possible exception of the bacon roll, where due to the miniscule size of this 'meal' it is unlikely that the ketchup would even be noticed.

    Edit: highlighting, typo

OK Bo, we're both losing!! Bacon Roll indeed! What happens to Sausage Roll? Is it pastry, is it bread? Who knows?

Bo.....I will concede defeat (if this poll isn't rigged) I will humblyaccept that:

the members of this board don't have a clue what they're on about!

    ITS A GOD-DAMNED BUTTIE

    thank you

It's bacon sarnie all the way, of course should it be in a stottie, then it's a bacon stottie

Having just returned to flesh after a veggie sabatical for 8 years, I've gotta say that HP sauce is the only condiment for a bacon buttie.
Had one last week and nearly shot my load.

if its in a stottie, then its a "bacon buttie in a stottie"....which is the obvious choice for us hard working northerners

You don't have a bacon "buttie" as you put it, in a stottie! That would be bread within a bread bun (I know, the stottie is more than a mere bun&#33
EDIT: Northern, my arse! Say hi to the queen for me!

tis a buttie, regardless of the "containing material"....and I do agree, a stottie cannot under any circumstances be classified under the heading "bun"

why, that's like saying the Atlantic is a puddle

You could not be more wrong my lad! The containing material IS what decides upon it's title! If it's in bread, it's a sarnie, if it's in a roll, it's a roll, and if it's in a stottie, it's a stottie! IT'S THAT SIMPLE!

    No, non, nein, just NO!!!!!

If its in bread, its a buttie, if its in a "roll" (a bun really, but that's another story) then its a buttie, if its in a stottie its a buttie
