Which Router to Buy

Looking to get a router

At the moment 2 Comps Wired.
I believe if it has ports at the back you can use it
as a wired router and disable the wireless part.

May want to wireless later So range maybe a factor ?

Want it to have Good inbound firewall protection

XP + Vista compatible

LINKSYS WRT54GL
It supports 802.11b/g, not n, which is the only drawback but most cable ISP's (in my state) don't even reach 802.11 b speed (11 mb/s).

whenever i find a router that actually supports p2p i'll get one. last linksys pos i bought did not and would ALWAYS shit on itself and disco from net. fuck them. i'm not on a network and i have a software fw. it's good enough 4 me.

I would recommend staying away from a wireless network (Especially for torrenting) but if you have to? I would recommend a Linksys, stay away from net "crap" gear routers.

You probably have an old Linksys router with default firmware. I know this because I do too. My router constantly disconnects as well but more often on my wireless connection, which is my PS3 (every day I have to reset it for the wireless). The Linksys router I posted above plus 3rd party firmware is supposed to be the best way to go for the price and performance.

actually, i "had" a new router and tried 3rd party firmware, but that was the problem for "new" routers only have 2mb of flash memory and 3rd party firmware needs 4mb of flash which old routers have. 2mb isn't enough. shit companies trying to save a buck.

yes, i looked into that one [here] and it has teh beloved 4mb of flash. meh, it's kinda late now. last router i had left a bad taste in my mouth.

My advice - stay clear of Argos for routers, they are priced ridiculously high. Use your gift vouchers for something else.

I personally find the Edimax products reliable, and they support WPA2 encryption if you decide to go for wireless at a later stage. Although my connection is wired, my brother uses one for torrents over a wireless connection with few problems, despite the fact that his router is not ideally placed.

Aye up Lynx, Would you still recommend the Edimax? I am using a Belkin shit thing and it drops the connection regularly...driving me nuts. Not much money though so need to find a good, cheap and reliable replacement.
