your monitor probably DOES support 100hz. most recent models do. not sure about damaging the monitor by setting it to 100hz, but i have heard things about it shortening the lifespan.

for most people, 60hz should be fine. you might wanna set it a bit higher (70hz-80hz) if you play video games.

No, 60hz is most certainly not fine. It is known to cause eye strain.

One of the first things you should do with a new monitor is get it the hell off 60hz!!!

Dang! I have an almost 2 and a half year old monitor that was on 60...now that i put it on 75 I have a TON less eye strain! THANX

by "most people" i meant people who are casual computer users and don't spend that much time on their pc. eye strain would be connected more to people who spend many hours staring at the screen.

and i'm sure the eye strain thing actually varies from person to person. some people's eyes are more sensitive.

Actually, I figured out what to do...I went to Sony's website and downloaded the drivers for my monitor, installed them, restarted and then my the device manager correctly said I could choose 100 Hz for 1280 X 1024! I humbly moved down to 90 Hz, and I must say, we are doing just fine. Bac k to Calculus!
