What kind of question are you asking? Be a little more specific.
If it were up to me, I'd spend the money on more hardware. Forget the software, you can always get that later.

he is being specific. should he spend his money on 1) a set-top dvd player with mpeg 4 decoding, or 2) a pc dvd-rw.
really a tough choice. i've got a Lite-On mpeg 4 player on backorder, myself. can't wait to get my hands on it.
at the moment, DVD-R discs are cheap, but i think CD-R is still more cost effective when you can find them at prices like $20 for 100 CD-Rs. i'd put off the DVD-RW for a little while longer, until the the prices come down even further on the drives and discs, personally.
