Im all in favour of ID cards.

    Always have been.

Not for security from "International Terrorism", hell any organisation with a little money would be able to get around them....but for the smaller things like..

Evidence of who you are: all rolled into one...instead of having to take evidence with you to open Bank Accounts, prove your age etc etc etc.

Plus, not needing to get a passport to go to most of Europe.

unless you have something to hide, this sounds like a good idea

i hate having to carry more than one piece of id at a time, i fear i will lose something valuable

The new picture-card driving licences are already a good approximation of an ID card, I'm all for it..

aren't the british airways cards just punch in/out cards? How is that a step towards identity cards?

I don't know, I've been out of the country for a fortnight so I've missed all this (thankfully flying Emirates rather than BA)

Can someone explain to me what the problem is with the swipe cards?

ilw is correct. It is a timekeeping card to show when the employee logs in and logs out.

It is nothing like an ID card.

The thread begins from a flawed premise and as such is pretty much pointless.
