i read a couple of problems like this on the TL forums.
its most probably because the mail was sent to a hotmail, yahoo id. i dont think the inviter can get it back in that case. ask him to post in the help forum in any case

no u shouldn't use hotmail or yahoo for TL. They tend to block invitations for some reasonme nope.
you have to use only hotmail or yahoo mails?
