Thread: Flashin The Bios

1. #1
i have the msi 6340m and im tryng to update the bios to version 6.3 so i read the instructions which was to:
1. Extract the BIOS-archive that you have downloaded by double clicking to c:\test

2. Boot your system from a Win98 or WinME boot-floppy.
How to make boot floppy in case your don’t have it ready:
For Win9X, You can type [C:\ format a:/s] from the DOS prompt.
For WinMe, You can make a boot floppy from control panel--> add/remove program-->make boot floppy. Remove autoexec.bat & config.sys file if there's any.
For Win2000, there's no way to make boot floppy, so you have to either use Win9X or WinME boot floppy.
For WinXP, you can make a DOS boot disk. Go to Your Computer, right click drive A:, select Format, select copy system files.

3. When you get the A:\ prompt, type the following sequence:
C: <enter>
cd\test <enter>
C:\test> awdfl783m BIOS file
(to save or not to save old BIOS is the user’s decision)

4. Reboot your system when prompted
but when i get to stage 3
C:\test> awdfl783m BIOS file
it asks me to put in "awdfl783m" so i do then it asks me if i want to save my old bios i say no then it states "source file not found" so my friends what do i do?
many thanks monkeyhead

just save the bios file and the flash utility to the floppy as well.

then just type.

cd test

awdfl783m bios file name.

that should work a treat. remember to save the old bios as well.

also will you not have to put the file extension on the end,

when i don mine i put it in C:\bios\
booted from floppy,
went to directory, then typed aminf336.exe bios.rom

where bios.rom was my bios file, which was about 6/7 numbers

wdit: also what version you got as i noticed there are diff pcb verions.

i mean what version of board have you got because on the msi website there is the standard and a version 3 and a version 5, so check what one u have as they will be different. it should say on the manual.

You have the wrong bios.

That bios is for MS6340M V5 only.
The first bios for that mb was version 6.0, and as you have 2.0 at the moment you obviously don't have a V5 board.

You need version 4.7 of the bios which supports the original MS6340M board and the later MS6340M V3.

Get it here.

I think the thanks should go to livy, he spotted what was wrong but seemed to be having difficulty getting it across.

are you trying to flash an amibios chip with an award bios? i think msi only supply award bios updates?? aminflash is for american megatrends or amibios, and they have sold the bios side to some company who charge for new updates, try driverguide.com and see if someone got new update on there
