    Core 2 Duo T5250 1.5GHz 667Mhz 2M L2 Cache
    VS.
    Dual Core T2330 1.6GHz 533Mhz 1M L2 Cache

both go in a Dell Inspiron 1720

Looks to me like the 1st one is better
but Dell is telling me that the 2nd one is better.

    any thoughts?

According to Dell the 2nd one is both more expensive and performs better
    I don't believe them.
but I don't know a lot about Processors

The full story is that I bought a 1720 and it had all sorts of problems
I would get the “blue screen of death” several times a day.
After sever 1-3 hour phone calls to Dell they agreed to send me a new computer that was like or better then the one I had. The one they sent me had the T2330 1.6GHz Dual Core processor in it.
If there is not a huge difference in performances I am not going to worry about it.
I just want to make sure Dell is not ripping me off.

the clock speed of the t2330 being higher doesnt necessarily mean that its a better processor. it IS in fact inferior to the core 2 duo t5250

    To break this down:
Core 2 Duo vs. Core Duo = Core 2 Duo wins
    1.5GHz vs. 1.6GHz = 1.6GHz wins
    667MHz FSB vs. 533MHz FSB = 667MHz FSB wins
    2MB L2 vs. 1MB L2 = 2MB wins

The Core 2 Duo is a newer, faster processor despite the loss of 100MHz against the Core Duo. The frontside bus is faster and it has more cache. And if I had to place a bet, the Core 2 Duo will provide you with better battery life.

    Definitely the Core 2 Duo.
The Core Duo's aren't as high performers, and even though the clock speed is lower, the cache is higher. FSB is the same, and combining these 3 things makes the Core 2 Duo come out on top
Edit: And NEVER trust a big name company like Dell

T2330 is a C2D (Core 2 Duo) running at 533/ 1 MB cache instead of 800 and 2MB cache that is on the T5250. Same architecture, however. The T2310 (1.46 MHZ version) was about 1.5% slower in all tests compared to the T5250 so I guess the T2330 will be slightly faster overall.

What's your video card? Is it the X3100 or dedicated?

C2D the top notch going on! It's highly performance! Intel Original is the best!
