I defrag every now and then. Seeing as how it takes a while sometimes Ill just hop on my laptop or something and wait for the defrag to finish. But recently I started to continue to use my computer while the defrag was in process and I didnt notice any major performance problems while doing so.

I was wondering if that would have any effect on the initial defrag process. And if anyone else uses their computer while its defragging

If you set the priority as low for your defragprog in the task manager, it works fine.

Using your PC while defragging will slow down the process. Imagine trying to change the oil in your car while driving it down the road.

It's wise to shut down all unnecessary programs and leave your PC alone.

Ya, it's best to just leave the computer alone when defragging.

Well its not a prob for me because I have more than one computer. However, its taking me 4 hours and Im only 28% through the defrag I started earlier on my main computer that I use most often. For anyone else that would suck if they only had one pc and had to just leave it alone . Then again I have huge hard drives and that may be why it takes so long.
