Having watched it a few times I have formed the opinion that Taylor went in to do him, it was deliberate.
I don't think he intended the multiple compound fractures or anything, but his foot was so high when it first contacted the leg (studs first) that I can't see it as an accident.

Agreed. I think it was just intended as the classic early hard tackle to get the opponent thinking.
