Thread: utorrent fluctuating speeds

  1. #1
yeah i know it's not supposed to be constant. but my graphs are coming up with too distinct patterns to be normal.

    what could be the problem?

i'm using utorrent 1.77 with cfosspeed enabling traffic shaping.
    intel e6750 @3.7ghz.
net max half open = 8

RAM or Hard Disk problems, more info is required.

Is your hard disk up to scratch with handling high speed downloads?

^^ That kind of info, which should rule out RAM & HD probs, but not entirely if one is found to be faulty.

    What is your line speeds?

Do you have max settings for up & down set? (which should be about 80% of each - not max, then increase in 1% increments and find out which setting suits you best)

Have you set up utorrent in accordance with any guides pertinent to your line speeds? Or is it just default from the box?

i've been using utorrent for over a year. it's only recently that this problem has arisen, but i can't pinpoint to one of the changes i've made. like version update/ microsoft update/ additional HDD/ Cfosspeed etc

i'm jus tlookign to see if someone else has the same problems as i do, to troubleshoot from there. i've capped my upstream to about 30 although my isp provides about 45. when i'm using up more downstream though upstream drops automatically to about 15-20 or so and doesn't even reach my cap of 30 that i put in place.

    line speed's 10mbps/384kbps

I would run some serious hard disk tools to check for errors & redundancy & fragmentation to rule out HDs, from the info you have supplied it looks like data is corrupting on write out to your hard disks.

Then move your utorrent data downloads to the best drive you have, and then report back.

Search for Hirens's boot CD V9.4 for the best data tools there is.

Have a look at "Disk Statistics" in utorrent and see if you spot anything odd there.

okay i've download hiren 9.4 like you said. what am i supposed to use in here now? sorry i'm just not familiar with it =)
i have about 1TB of torrent data and it spans across all 3 hdd. even if i consolidated, it'd still be more than one disc. okay and i'm not sure if this matters. but when i try to defragment the drive that only has torrent downloads using the windows defragmenter, almost the whole bar is red, even after defragmenting. does that say anythign?

Before I let you loose on HD tools, you had better do the MS safe hard disk check first:
