What's the big deal? how many places where file sharing on a network is not desired like campus's and workplaces even use linux? A small number most likely.

    This is what I guess:

    (1)
The firewall will scan your computer for open ports, and they can know what you are doing.

Solution:just simply download ZoneAlarm and all your ports become stealth. If they try to scan your computer, they will think that your computer was shutted down(No Responds to packages)

    (2)
They simulate FireTrack Protocol, send a request to you and trap your KaZaA program.

Solution:Use PeerGuardian or something else to BAN the server's IP,then your KaZaA will not respond to the server as if the KaZaA doesn't exist.

    (3)
They sniff your packages and examine it.
    Solution:Give up.Anyone have opinion?

this is a very good idea for large organizations. imagine everyone at work or school using kazaa. your internet connection would be as slow as a 28.8 k modem.

erm installing zonealarm without admin rights will be a problem. and it will not stop the server blocking all kazaa requests.

Solution:Use PeerGuardian or something else to BAN the server's IP,then your KaZaA will not respond to the server as if the KaZaA doesn't exist.
erm so you block the ip of the only machine you can connect through

They sniff your packages and examine it.

yep dont abuse your privelages. they provide you with the internet so play nice.

linux vs windows depends on state and country. at my university which has campus's in each borough and state universities in several cities they use windows.
