Did you select the music tab and not mixed cd?
It has been awhile since I used v5, but if you watch your steps all should be good.
A friend of mine did the same thing and when I went to his house all worked well.

Then you need to look for the music tab or it will create a mix or data cd.

Edit:

I know all that. I have the screen up where you click on the song> then click add, and the song appears on the bottom half of the screen, and on the very bottom there is a bar that has about a one inch block(im sure your fimiliar with this)for each song that represents the amount of space being used on the particular cd. The only problem is, I know that its putting the songs on in mp3 format because one song only takes up ---> l <----- this much space.
