All this talk about the RIAA's witchhunt is scaring me a little. This might be an ignorant question but can someone out there tell me if I specify an static IP address in my TCP/IP, would that make me more suseptible to getting caught than if I check the "obtain an IP address automatically"? Thanks.

IP addresses are assigned by your ISP.

There are 2 basic types, static and dynamic.

A static IP address never changes. A dynamic address may be different each time you get online. Dynamic IPs are more common with dial-up ISPs.

Everything you do online goes through your ISPs servers. This applies even if you use a proxy server.
