How fast does a Wireless-G usb thingy let me transfer data. The Router is Pre-N so the thingy is the limiting factor.

There are three speeds associated with wireless
    802.11b is 11Mb/s
    802.11g is 52Mb/s
    and n is 108Mb/s

They're theoretical maximum throughputs though, so you'll never really get those kinds of speeds. What speed you do get will depend on the makes of the USB adapter and the router. For example if they're the same make they might be using a specific manufacturers code to implement data compression on the link so it may be faster whereas if they're different manufacturers that won't work.

It's suck it and see thing I'm afraid JP.

    likely a max of 50Mb/s.
    So like about 6 MB/s.
But keep in mind when I was using my 100Mb/s network to send a lot of files yesterday vista was reporting only going up to 8MB/s, average about 4. I think the computer's hard drive is also a limiting factor.

So it's not going to be a factor which affects my Usenet download speeds.

    Cheers, old bean.

    Nope.
    Wireless networks aren't that slow.
