Thread: I Really Want To Upgrade!

  1. #1
I really want to upgrade, so I feel better about myself lol. No not just that, a lot of reasons.

You see what would be the smartest way? I want to keep all of my stuff (running programs, registry, etc.) the same. How could I do this? I have XP Home right now.

I don't think you can. I think XP PRO has to be installed clean when you have Home installed. It should be anyway if you want to give it a fair evaluation.

I bought the XP Home Edition

I do have an illegal copy of my friend's XP Pro, would that work?

It works perfectly fine. I had laptop bought with win xp home and I installed win xp pro corp and it worked perfectly fine. Just make sure u defrag right after word or it might be little screwy and slow. That happened to me but once I defragged worked like a charm. Also it is very likely u will have to reinstall all special drivers, like for your sound card and shit like that. I had to do for numerous things. Make sure u have drivers ready incase u have to reinstall some of them.

Awesome, but I heard Microsoft auto-uninstalls illegal copies of XP (like when auto-updating and stuff). Is this true?

    here

    and here

its perfectly ok to install xp pro over any os but you should use your own key. also i do recommend formatting and a clean installation on the ntfs platform. ive covered both topics quite extensivly over the past couple of days. go to the links above and read. happy installing

^ That's a link about converting to NTFS and one about changing your Product Key. ?
Neither of which are needed if you do a clean install with an XP Pro Corporate Disc..
and a good key (not FCKGW..etc).

I always think it's best to do a clean format/install. If you've got alot of stuff you wanna save it depends...but I can
load all my software, including Windows, in about 4 hours. (Updates, settings, and all)

this post is guaranteed 100% parrot-free

the post has issues about using valid keys and he wants to upgrade not do a clean install which i recommended. ntfs is far more stable than fat32 i was just saying how he can upgrade and not lose programs like he wants, change the key to one of his own and then convert to ntfs afterwards for a more stable platform, does my post not cover those issues?

boyzeee I read those posts and everything, I even downloaded the KeyGen from: "The Blue List"

But you see I STILL don't understand
I AM GOING FROM XP HOME --> PRO/CORPORATE BTW hehehe

First we're going to cover the basics of all surrounding information that I need in order to survive:

    1) My Harddrives are already NFTS, do I still have to reformat?

    2) And WHAT is a clean install/format? And WHY would you recommend a clean install/format?

    3) XP Pro or Corporate? Where should I download Corporate if that's the case (the best place)?

    4) Where do I go to check and see if my CD Key is valid after installing the product? Do I first guess a CD Key? WHAT, WHY, WHERE, WHEN, HOW?! I need like a book on this! Or at least some images to help me out!

    5) Can I still get auto-updates if I use a pirated copy of XP Pro/Corporate?

    6) BTW I've already installed all of my Drivers on XP HOME, why would I need to redo that on XP Pro/Corporate?

    7) What if I screw it all up and I install with a bad key, and uninstall, where am I then, MS DOS?! with freakin' System Restore and all of my files wiped out of my a$$?!

    SOMEONE HELP!!!
