Windows Movie Maker = most simple to use, not many features
Sony Vegas = many features, a little more advanced to use but still easy

If you don't want to learn anything, just use Windows Movie Maker which comes with XP. Download the latest version from Microsoft's site. It does most of what you could want.
Visit Videohelp.com or Doom9.org and afterdawn.com, they all have loads of freeware and tutorials on how to use the stuff. Just add www and stir.
