I have a new amd 2000+ it runs at 52C base idle speeds (bios etc) and 62c when full out on a hot day (37.9c 100f) .
    60c is an ok temp.
my XP 2000 runs hard at 40c and idles between 30 and 35. 60 is Not ok.
At that rate, your CPU will burn out at least twice as fast as mine. Anything over 50c is cause for concern on a stock setup.

amds run hoter because they are overclocked in the amd factory. the stock amd fans and sinks arent ideal and you should get new upgrades before you cook your chip 60oC is ok but a longerr life comes from lower temps

says me with a cyrix 486 fan bolted on a intel p4 1.4g it still runs at 32oC to 42oC
