    Some of this weeks Cat Trax (For week ending August 15th):

    Yet another Doors compilation is out. The two-disc Absolute Best of the Doors features one previously unreleased track, a studio version of Celebration of the Lizard. Also in stores, a remastered version of the seven-disc box set The Complete Studio Recordings.

    15 AC/DC albums – from 1976’s High Voltage to 1992’s Live – have been remastered for reissue on high-quality vinyl October 7th. A special box containing all 15 albums will be available as well. Also, the 1997 box set Bonfire has been remastered and will be re-released on CD September 9th.

    Van Morrison has long sung the praises of blues and soul greats – and now a select group of those folks are returning the favor on Vanthology. The 15 track collection features blues giant Little Milton, soul legend Eddie Floyd and onetime Jackie Wilson collaborator Syl Johnson, appropriately, covers Morrison’s Jackie Wilson Said.

    The Grateful Dead will release a 17 track, single disc hits package on September 16. The Very Best of the Grateful Dead will contain songs from throughout their career, including Truckin’, Casey Jones, US Blues, Touch of Grey and Ripple.

    Paul McCartney’s two-hour A & E Special, The Journey to Red Square, will premiere September 1st . Paul performed before 100-thousand people on May 24th during his first-ever trip to Russia.

    Elton John’s December 2002 show with a 90-piece orchestra at London’s Royal Opera House will be shown this month on Great Performances on PBS. The concert raised more than a million dollars for the Elton John Scholarship Fund at the Royal Academy of Music.

    Rod Stewart will have another new greatest hits package in stores August 26th. Encore: The Very Best of Rod Stewart Volume Two spans the years 1975 through 2001, and includes Having a Party, The First Cut is the Deepest, and his covers of Elton John’s Your Song and Carole King’s So Far Away.

    The Doors will perform their LA Woman album in its entirety at their August 23rd show at Jones Beach on Long Island, New York. The concert is being filmed for a DVD. It’s the first time they’ve ever played the album, their last studio effort with Jim Morrison, live.

    A Bruce Springsteen tribute album previously available only in Europe will be coming out in the US on September 2nd. The two-disc Light of Day: A Tribute to Bruce Springsteen features The Boss’s songs covered by E Street Band guitarist Nils Lofgren, Elvis Costello and 35 other artists.

    GRAY DAY

    DAVID GRAY is to play an enormous free show at LONDON’s TRAFALGAR SQUARE.

    The adult rock titan will become the first person to perform at the Square’s new plaza, redeveloped at a cost of £25 million, on Sunday August 31.

    Support comes from Morcheeba, with a third act still to be announced.

    The 10,000 tickets for the event are free, but must be applied for via telephone on 0870 511 2206. Lines are open until midnight tonight (August 13) and successful applicants will be notified by Saturday August 23.

    Radiohead, The Coral and Interpol among Shortlist nominees
    RADIOHEAD, THE LIBERTINES, INTERPOL and The THE CORAL are amongst the list of nominees announced for the annual American SHORTLIST MUSIC PRIZE. A total of ten finalists will be chosen from the current list of 86 artists - which also includes The Mars Volta, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Beck, Hot Hot Heat, Turin Brakes, Blur and - The Streets - with the winner announced on October 16. The Shortlist Music Prize was established in 2001 and is based on the UK's Mercury Music Prize. The voting panel is made up of a range of judges from the entertainment industry, including Queens Of The Stone Age's Josh Homme, Chris Martin of Coldplay and Tom Waits.

    BASEMENT JAXX have announced details of the follow up to 2001's 'ROOTY' LP.

    'Kish Kash' is the dance duo's third album and will be released on October 20. It features collaborations with artists including punk legend Siouxsie Sioux, soulstress Me'Shell NdegéOcello, former - *N Sync member JC Chasez and The Bellrays' Lisa Kekaula.

    First single 'Lucky Star', featuring 18-year-old rap sensation Dizzee Rascal, will be released November 10.

    ROAD TO SOMEWHERE

    RYAN ADAMS, BRIGHT EYES and JOHNNY CASH are to appear on 'LOST & FOUND - VOL I' - a collection of rarities, B-sides and unreleased music from the country flagship label LOST HIGHWAY.

    Due for a September release, the album will feature Cash's version of the country classic 'Wichita Lineman', Adams' 'Rosalie Come and Go' - available on the limited edition of 2002's 'Gold' album - and 'Trees Get Wheeled Away', recorded by Bright Eyes especially for the compilation.

    Also included is The Jayhawks' 'Falling Star' from their hard-to-find 1986 self-titled debut, 'Fools On Parade' from their latest album 'Rainy Day Music' and 'Choked Up' - an outtake from the recording of 'Pneumonia' by the Adams-fronted Whiskeytown.

    According to Billboard.com, Lost Highway are planning to release the follow-up - 'Lost & Found - Vol II' - in 2004.
