if you are coming form a windows background, go with ubuntu. if not(ie: you are not a complete linux noob) i think debain would be the best for any sever OS.

    Now its this..
    Ubuntu 7.04 Desktop free
    OR
Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Desktop (BETA) free

It's because 8.04 is a BETA..will it be OK. I think now 8.04 is out of beta version so will I be able to update it?

    Please, one last time..

Ubuntu Server only comes with a SSH server. Nothing more.
The Desktop edition also includes a VNC clone.

Since you're German, I'm guessing that you're going to rent an OVH server directly, so choose the one you want and if you're unhappy with it, the OVH manager will allow you to reinstall the server with the other version.

Im using Win 2003 Web Ed.
Its Ok for the basics... but dont think u r going to have increased security.
    If u r a security freak ... go Debian.

I have ubuntu server for some time now and can just recommend it :-)

Its also perfectly fits to this guide/tutorial, so if you're new into linux/seedboxes and wanna be a webseeder, you just need the following:

    1. 24,99 €/$ for OVH-kimsufi-rootserver
    2. Choose Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Server 32bits as OS
    3. naq's Complete Setup Guide... here on FST ;-)
    4. seed seed seed
