    Hold F8 as your PC boots....but Windows XP doesn't really supoort a true Command Prompt only boot.
    You'll basically be in safe mode with a Command Prompt window open.

    yeah xp dosen't really have a dos mode...

    You could try putting a blank floppy disk in your floppy drive, go to "My Computer"
    , Right click on your floppy drive icon and go to "Format", then in the menu that pops up tick the box that says "Create an MS-DOS Startup disk".
    then when it has finished just restart your computer with the floppy in the drive and that should get you into DOS.

    That works for me most of the times. I would suggest the same.
