that ur discreption pitbul

when ever i read ur post i see ur insullting people [/b][/quote]
at least i have a reason and include more then an insult but also tell them why and how they made then selves look bad like you for instances your a fake gamer who post old unfactual news and tries to spread rumors. look at this topic look who said that Half Life 2 was gonna be a nVidia exclusive? and now Gabe is pretty much making nVidia look like an ass (much like most of us did to you for this post) by saying that all the optimizations in there drivers bit them in the ass.nice try at an insult but far from coming close to me taking offense. and dont try and come back with that "well i thought u would have known i was just joking in this post" u still look like an ass.

dear bawa@Klite_user,

ATI and Valve Software made an announcement two days ago, so i thought it was a good opportunity to bump this wonderful thread. here is a copy/paste with particularly interesting parts in large text, in case you missed it.

Press Release - 2003
ATI introduces RADEON™ 9800 XT and RADEON™ 9600 XT, demonstrating industry leadership once again

Bundled with Half-Life® 2, new RADEON™ cards enable extreme gaming experience

Tuesday September 30, 2003

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MARKHAM, Ontario – ATI Technologies Inc. (TSX: ATY, NASDAQ: ATYT) today introduced the RADEON™ 9800 XT and the RADEON™ 9600 XT, delivering killer DirectX® 9 performance in leading games like Half-Life® 2, which will be bundled with the graphics cards.
The RADEON 9800 XT, the most powerful visual processor available, takes the award-winning RADEON 9800 architecture, the first and only to feature eight full pixel pipes, and makes it even faster. Shipping immediately, the graphics cards will feature 256MB of graphics memory and a wide, 256-bit memory interface. In addition to the brute-force capabilities of the visual processor, the architecture is efficiently designed to process instructions in parallel, maximizing performance. The RADEON 9800 XT will be available in stores and online in October from ATI and its board partners. ATI’s retail product will have a suggested retail price of $499.

The RADEON 9600 XT, the world’s first visual processor developed using a low k dielectric process, features four pixel pipes and 128MB of graphics memory and delivers unbeatable performance for under $200. Recent reviews have shown the RADEON 9600 XT to outperform cards twice its price in today’s shader-intensive DirectX 9 games. Gamers will enjoy the stunning visual quality that the RADEON 9600 XT delivers, which renders in full precision at all times. The card will also be available in stores and online in October from ATI and its board partners.

“ATI’s performance and image quality in DirectX 9-class games is unmatched,” said Rick Bergman, Senior Vice President, Marketing, General Manager, Desktop, ATI Technologies Inc. “By bundling Half-Life 2 with these products we are giving our customers the opportunity to experience the full capability of ATI’s DirectX 9 hardware.”

Customers purchasing ATI’s RADEON 9800 XT and RADEON 9600 XT will also get a free copy of Half-Life 2 when the game ships. “We chose to partner with ATI because of their outstanding DirectX 9 performance,” said Gabe Newell, Founder and Managing Director, Valve®. “Half-Life 2 relies heavily on advanced shader technologies to give the game a realistic and immersive environment. ATI’s DirectX 9-class RADEON™ cards are the best choices for playing Half-Life 2.”

ATI’s RADEON 9800 XT and RADEON 9600 XT will be available in high-end gaming systems from system builders like ABS, Alienware, CyberPower, Elite PC, Falcon Northwest, IbuyPower, MDG, Velocity Micro, Voodoo PC and ZT Group.

Add-in-board partners and third party graphics card manufacturers will also be distributing products for retail, and for the OEM and white box markets. Board partners include ASUSTeK, Celestica, Connect3D, CP Technology, GeCube, Giga-Byte, Hercules, Hightech Information System, Sapphire, VisionTek and Yuan.

1 year max. after hl2 comes out, most of the games will require at least 128

the gf4 mx is, what, a one-and-a-half year old model? but the technology in that card is recycled from the geforce 2 series, so the technology is actually older. the gf4 mx is basically a high-end gf2, but nvidia kinda confused a lot of people by putting the 4 in its name.

since HL2 hasn't come out yet, it's impossible to make definite statements about how it will perform on each card-- but people with newer video cards will definitely see more eye-candy.

if HL2 turns out to be a great game, it might be a good reason for you to upgrade so you can crank the graphics quality up and enjoy the game more. like abu said, you've got maybe between 6 & 12 more months of running new games acceptably (different games do have different requirements) but you'll want to get a new card within the next year, if you want to play the games that have cutting-edge graphics.

While the geforce 4 mx does have many similiarities to the 2-mx's, its considerably faster in many parts and it will still have no problems running any upcoming games (1 year, meh, don't worry - it will last longer than that [for the most part]). Getting top graphics out of those games is another issue though.
