How do you define anonymity?

If an element is not identifiable within a well-defined set, then the element is said to be "anonymous".

This means you don't know who your neighbor is. All elements look the same.

This can only be achieved if one person backs another, and all will plead for plausible deniability.
The last user in the chain can always be identified, and he aided the unlawful transaction by routing / caching.

Instead, most people rely on "underground structures" or use safe harbors such as usenet.
