What do I need to play?
Right now we are using a free poker client called
PokerTH, which has windows, linux, and MacOS versions (so
whatever OS you're using you should be able to play with us!). Download the latest version of the client from their website.
We are playing for fake money and using an freeware poker client which allows you to host your own games (so you don't even need to sign up at a pay site to play!).
How do I use PokerTH to connect to a game?
If this is your first time using the client you can set your nick and avatar by going to
Game -> Settings -> Player Nicks.
Network Game: To join a network game, click on
Game -> Network Game -> Join Network Game. Enter the IP address and port the person hosting the game has specified and click connect when they say the server is ready.
Internet Game: To join an internet game, click on
Game -> Internet Game and simply select the game you wish to join from the list of games being played on the server and click
join.
How do I use PokerTH to host a network game?
You will need to make sure that the port being used is forwarded correctly through your router (if you have one) and that the poker client isn't being blocked by any other firewall. The default port for the game is 7234, but this can be changed by going to
Game -> Settings -> Network Game Settings.
To host a game you just need to go to
Game -> Network Game -> Create Network Game and a dialog with game settings will pop up.
The maximum number of player should be left at 7.
Starting cash should be $2000.
Click on change blind settings...
* Small blind should be $10.
* Hands before raise of small blind should be set equal to the number of players in the game.
* Make sure Always double blinds is selected and click OK
Game speed for computer opponents should be set to 10.
Timeout for player action should be set to 15 sec (unless someone requests otherwise reasons of lag).
Once the settings for the game have been entered, click Create Game. Publish the IP & Port for the game in the IRC channel and let everyone know they can connect. To determine your external IP, visit a site like
http://www.ipchicken.com/ and copy and paste the IP from there. Once everyone is connected, click Start Game to start the game.
Once the game starts set the game speed slider on the bottom right to 10 if it is not set at 10 already.
