700 MB = 80 Minutes
so
4.7 GB = 537 Minutes

(Equivalent audio.)

That 8x speed seems to be only for DVD+R and not DVD-R
Kindly explain the differences. I am a little in the dark regarding the whole DVD burning issue as any computing time that I have is generally math related these days. You seem well educated on the DVD-R vs. +R issue and I would greatly appreciate your help better understanding their ins and outs. Maybe it should be pinned, as your explanations may be useful to many current and future members of this board. You explain things very well, Somebody, and I must admit the avatars you made for several members are quality. B)

Oops sorry,I forgot about french women.
I am just messing with him.I mostly hate the drivers from Quebec that come to my province to sight see and crap.Between Quebec and New Brunswick they have the worst drivers in all of Canada. Just my opinion though.

You should come to LA if you want to see some bad drivers.

The Differences

There is very little difference between DVD-R and DVD+R, both of which can only be written once. They are used in exactly the same way. But you have to be careful with DVD-R because there are two standards for blank disks. The one to use is marked "DVD-R for General Use." The other is marked "DVD-R for Authoring," and it only works for mastering DVD video or data because its composition is different. This sort of DVD-R is not usually available to the general public.

As for calculating the minutes... I just took 80÷700x4700=537.14

@johnboy27,

Just a word of warning to you. This board is viewed by the world. If you choose to have negative comments about specific groups of people then you may find out that it's not appreciated nor acceptable.

Not a problem, my friend. You're very welcome.

so it takes 537 / 8 = 67.125 minutes to burn a dvd? or is the 8x referring to something else. I kinda thought it might be video minutes, because practically no one uses dvd for audio.
