Mother Board

I am starting a new job next week, so i am going to start my cutom pc. What would you recommend for a mother board, and how much does it cost?

For Athlon XP based systems, they don't come much better than the Asus A7N8X Deluxe, but it's not cheap.

Any board with the nForce2 Ultra-400 chipset should be an excellent choice.

If you're going Intel... I don't know, because I don't waste my money on them personally, so I've never researched it.

Price is not a problem i will take the time to raise enogh to get it. I really want the best comp i can get.

up till now, i would have recommended getting an Nforce2-based motherboard (if you were to choose AMD, of course)... but right now is a pretty bad time to be choosing parts for a computer, imho. the 64-bit Athlon ("Athlon64") is coming out before the end of the month, which supports both 32-bit (the PC standard for the past several years) and 64-bit (the next step for PCs, which is just starting to gel) programs.

if you were to wait for the 64-bit Athlons & motherboards, you would need to get a 64-bit version of Windows (or Linux, if that suits your tastes) and most programs would not be available in 64-bit versions yet. but for the programs and games that do come out in AMD64 versions soon, you should see very nice performance advantages, and more & more software authors should eventually follow with 64-bit versions of their programs. in the meantime, it still supports all of the current 32-bit Windows software (and runs it very fast)... but my point is, it's more futureproof than the previous generation of CPUs.

making a significant investment in a 32-bit PC right now could be something you end up regretting, since the newer technology is right on the horizon. so you should read about 64-bit and see what it is, and decides if it would be a better choice for you.
