all your questions can be solved at Doom 9 site. there you'll get faq's, guides, and everything you need to make your VCD/SVCD.

Use either the bilinear resize filter or the bicubic resize filter, depending on whether you are shrinking or enlarging your video, respectively. Virtual Dub has a built in resize filter, but I personally would not know if its any good as I have never had to use that one. If you're confused try www.dvdrhelp.com its more noob friendly than doom9.

Sorry i though that you wanted to actually split the file, or just take bits of it off.

    My apologies

Why dont you try to re-encode them using xvid or divx instead of mpeg, files will be smaller but if you only want to watch them on your pc and not on the dvd player under t.v. downstairs.
All you need to watch pc on tv is a video out card and time to lift a load of carpets and floorboards, or go the easy way (allbeit more expensive,) rf video sender, which comes in at well under £100.
Oh , and cordless keyboard and mouse .(joypad optional)
if you want to split one big file over two or more disks then virtualdub will do this, although it haas a pretty steep learning curve so read the readme's and helpfiles and remember, you are the onlyone who will be able to do this for yourself so try and try again, it will get easier.
