That must be the biggest bullshit i've heard on this forum.
i just think there has been a pattern for the last century, where blacks create a totally exciting new style of music and then many non-blacks dismiss it as "nothing but noise" until successful white musicians actually start performing it. there just have not been enough Vanilla Ices and Eminems yet, to help rap gain the level of acceptance that it will eventually achieve. rap is already huge, but it will still get bigger in the next several years.
excuse me if it's not polite to mention race, but i don't think it is something that can be ignored as if it isn't an issue. of course people aren't going to say "i don't like that music because it's too black," but i think it's an underlying factor anyway.

Read what I wrote, its more abridged.. what you wrote was a little to raw and pretty much said that black people are the only good musicians. I wrote that they happen to be write good songs/create good music a lot of the time because of the enviornment.
signature removed, check the boardrules.
nah, that's not what i meant. black people aren't the only good musicians, it's just that they typically lead the major changes in style, and it takes a while for the new styles to completely saturate white culture. it's not that they do it better, but they do it first. "good" and "new" are two different things.Originally posted by mogadishu@19 September 2003 - 22:09

if the old pattern actually does apply to rap, it could be possible that 20 or 30 years from now rap will be going strong, but it will be performed mainly by white musicians (and black musicians will have moved on to something newer). there won't be any argument at all about whether or not rap is "music." white rap wouldn't be worse than black music, but it would be old-fashioned compared to whatever the black musicians are doing at that point.
