    Question Mark

Just sampled some Fats Waller ("Honeysuckle Rose", "How Can You Face Me", etc) and I must say I'm impressed.

Looks like I'm in the Jazz hemisphere to stay.

Of the jazz-o-philes here, who likes what and why?

well, i'm into jazz since a while but to be honest, i don't really know where to start.
here are some various well-known artists that come to my mind, just pm me if you want more artists.

    - Louis Jordan (famous one): http://open.spotify.com/track/30bhZkfA6h6e26UjK3inx8

    - Fats Waller (one of my fav): http://open.spotify.com/track/6fBtATcxAPKaFoLL0BwxCk

    - Art Tatum (a pioneer, an absolute genius - his jazz was very influenced by classical music)
    http://open.spotify.com/track/3hU8kSuZYKh5fFbAycuOlv

    - John Coltrane (a god - what can i say more)
    http://open.spotify.com/track/6oVY50pmdXqLNVeK8bzomn

    - Oliver Nelson (a pure masterpiece): http://open.spotify.com/track/0me9HCyCYTHsgmcl7jXiGl

    - Miles Davis (no need to introduce him): http://open.spotify.com/track/5o3DSHw1ORhM3lWxqGRvEf

    and so on...
sorry but there are too many awesome jazzmen/bands, i can't compare them to make a selection.
don't hesitate to shoot me a pm anyway
whenever people agree with me, i always feel i must be wrong.

I love the music of Michel Camillo, especially the album Spain with Tomatito.
It's awesome sitting outside in the sun, a good beer or a glass wine (bottle will do fine too) and the the summer jazz sound of the flamengo...

Coltrane, Chet Baker, Toots Thielemans, Bobby Mcferrin are on my favorite list too.
Zijlsta is a Dutch band wich is great too http://www.zijlstraweb.com/audio/den...s/track04.htmlhttp://www.zijlstraweb.com/audio/ste...ips/index.html

Giovanca, Wouter Hamel are nice new talents showing Jazz is still alive

    Oh and Chet Baker FTW.

Fats Waller was a genious on the stride piana too, and Bix Beiderbecke sounds like honey.

Great thread I've been getting into some miles, coltrane, waller etc, but looking some more "underground" stuff to have a rip through.

agreed. Jimmy Smith is an incredible organist (i have several albums of him) and Martial Solal is one, if not the only, french who managed to be accepted and play regularly with american legends such as Dizzy Gillespie, Chet Baker, Kenny Clarke, Didier Lockwood etc...
