I've got an asus laptop that seems to have picked up a nasty virus, my Kaspersky failed and told my my license file was invalid, and would no longer scan or protect anything. tried to replace it with other AV but all AV sites are blocked. I used the f9 recovery of os to factory settings and now I can visit AV sites and download AV software but none of it will successfully install(bitdefender, and Avira so far)and the trend micro trial that was on here told me my license file was invalid, since it was an unactivated trial that is awfully weird.
SuperAntiSpyware will install and run but finds nothing. Would it be a safer bet to format C: first from a livecd and then reinstall? I'm worried that the hidden asus partition may be infected too since it seems I haven't gotten rid of it. Or is there anything else I can do, if I can get clean of this I'll switch to deepfreeze I think since this blew right through kaspersky.

have you tried booting into safe mode? you can try "safe mode with networking" and try to get dr.web cureit it can run in safe mode that way the virus wont interfere with the scanning. also try malwarebytes it has worked for me in a couple of situations.

You can try to enter safemode with network and download Dr.Web cure it, or you may check if your system time&date? It seems that the system date may be changed bu the virus to make Kaspersky say your license expired.

you don't need to re format, thats just plain lazy, do that as a real lastt resort, get a2cmd http://forum.emsisoft.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=1337
that will sort out most viruses/trojans etc in safe mode or normal,if you are educated in pc's try a linux live disc like ubuntu etc, as they really work well at getting rid of not only the virus but the traces that it leaves behind, going that route is time consuming but it will educate you for the future on other options available to you than just formatting because you have a virus/trojan.
    hope this as helped

Firstly, typically, there should be no need to format the hard drive. Sometimes, a worst case scenario (meaning all other methods of cleaning have ultimately failed) would undoubtedly call for a format and reinstall. Hopefully, yours is not the case.

Secondly, prior to running your scans, you should always turn OFF System Restore. Safe mode is recommended for running your scans. As for recommended anti-spyware, I suggest using Malwarebytes' Anti-malware. You can get the free version of their scanner from here. Obviously, you will want to run more than just one scan with more than one piece of software to ensure the ultimate cleaning. You could also use Microsoft Security Essentials, a free scanner from Microsoft. Other great removal tools you might want to use as well, are: AVG Free Edition, SUPERAntiSpyware, both of which have free editions. There are a wide range of even more free tools available that are quite adept at waging war on the prevalent threat of spyware. Also, don't forget to turn System Restore back ON after you have successfully cleaned everything up. If you end up needing more tools, feel free to shoot me a PM.
