I'm looking at an Apex AD-1225 DVD player.

    http://www.apexdigitalinc.com/proddetail.a...enumber=71&c=No

I have heard that older models of Apex players have been able to play just about any media format. I would like to know if this one will playback VCDs and DVD±R.

I would also like to know if the new model has been 'hacked' to make it play multiregion DVD and be able to disable Macrovision.

My first question is the most important one at this point for me.

I was wondering what people think about it.

    Thanks.

Supports cdr, cdrw, dvd-r, dvd-rw, dvd+r, vcd, svcd. xvcd, xsvcd, mp3, wma.
    Does not support dvd+rw.

Cannot find any hacks for multi-region or macrovision.

An alternative might be the earlier AD-1500 model, same target price, supports all above and dvd+rw, hacks for multi-region and macrovision, if you can find it.

    Thank you Lynx,

I cannot seem to find the AD-1500 model anymore.

In fact, I am looking to buy a new DVD player to replace my AD-1500 that just died.

Are there any other models that are in the same price range and have been hacked?

The Cyberhome 402 seems to be in the same range and has been hacked.
My brother has the earlier 400 model which the 402 replaces (I assume, it looks the same), and it gives excellent performance.

    Edit: cyberhome

That's where my brother got his, but they were a bit more than that (about £54 I think).

    I'll look into that Cyberhome.

Hmm. The Apex AD-1225 is $59.99 Canadian dollars right now. So that's about 27£ I think or $44.50 US Dollars.

    Thanks again...

    Now to decide.

Edit: They don't have any Cyberhome that I can find around here at all.

I just went to Future Shop to see about the Apex to find out that they had no stock.
I noticed that there is another one around the same price: Malata DVP-393. I'm looking into that one right now, so if anyone has any more info it would be appreciated.
