I just wanted to make sure I understand something correctly. When you use ssl encryption on a site it only encrypts that your viewing the site. It has nothing to do with your transfers being encrypted or any safer. Is this correct?

If you are talking about torrent transfer, then no. Using ssl on web only affects you browsing and transfer between you and the site. Torrent transfer is different. However, I know that waffles ( not sure about others ) offers https with their announce urls for torrents ( if that is what you are referring to when you mean trasnfer. )Originally Posted by pharaoh

I know that at least Vuze always attempts encrypted transport, I think uTorrent does as well. If encrypted transport fails, then it tries without encryption.
You can choose in settings to only accept encrypted transport i.e. if it fails, connection is cut.

https while browsing the site hides the content between your computer and the site.
https on tracker announces hides the data that you're sending to the tracker (announces, getting peer lists, etc..).
the protocol encryption in clients obfuscates traffic to help defeat traffic shaping on some isps. it offers no protection at all.

True, that's the problem with SSL, the fact that it is easily breakable. Just run "ssl decryption" on Google to see how easy it is to break it...
