I am wondering whether it is possible to install PHP on a server on which you do not have shell-access to?

I was going to use my ISP webspace, but I don't think they have SQL and PHP pre-installed.

it has been awhile since i set up a web site from scratch but quite often you can get other servers to host / do certain things for you while keeping your site where it is

MySQL 7? Funny... last time I checked (about a weeks ago), they were only on 4. [edit: Ok, I'm guessing the 7 was supposed to be an ampersand (&), and you just missed the Shift key. ]

I'm running Apache 1.3.28, PHP 4.3.3, and MySQL 4.0.14b. Probably going to install the latest ActivePerl, eventhough I don't do much Perl prgramming anymore...

And to answer the original question: That's a big, fat no. I'm sure you can admire the stupendous security risk involved in allowing users to install any software they wanted onto the server.
