get more than one pc and a router, for the deffinition of lan that i assume that you are intrested in. Or connect 2 comps via ethernet cords, that is a lan (local area network)

it is possible to connect laptops together on a lan, however they may not have built in lan connections, so you may need to buy a pcma or whatever card type it is( i don't do laptops)
