it's because your eye's have to look over the other shades to go from 'A' to 'B', so the difference in between is what confuses us.
heres a handy tool for checking rgb and cmyk values without using photoshop etc

It may look as if the two arms of the 'X' use different shades of pink, but in fact the whole X only uses a single colour
